Being set in a fictional Latin American country ruled by a merciless dictator, I was furhter wary for several reasons, primary among them that Ubisoft has been known to portray foreign countries in a negative light, as we’ve seen with titles like Ghost Recon Wildlands. On the screen, these become unnecessary backstories, dragging the narrative down due to slipshod and clichéd writing. Everything is a serious matter, except when it isn’t and a dark sense of humor creeps in to offer a momentary respite which, yes, includes plenty of FMV shorts. You could be wowed by the environment, but you’re still fighting wild animals from Earth. I find enemies too powerful for my low grade abilities and guns, so I dip out. A lot of the new content will be most useful to those who have played a lot of Into the Breach already, but if you’re moving to mobile from another platform, the lack of cross platform progress syncing might help you start out with some new options from the start to keep things spicier than usual. Whether you prefer a melee or ranged approach, the various weapons in Hades let you tailor the combat to your own personal hack and slash fighting style. There’s more room to screw around and strut your super stuff when you aren’t stopped every minute or so by dialogue or cutscenes that show cool confrontations but don’t actually let you play them outside of sparing QTEs. And both games are actually created by the same person, Phil Walker Harding.
